The area colours are the ones the agencies’ own services draw with, sampled from the images that come back. Station circles are coloured ONLY where the source publishes thresholds: where it does not, the circle stays hollow, because on a flood page an invented colour would say “careful” or “all fine” with nothing behind it. Mind how far each dataset reaches: municipal boundaries and imagery cover the whole of Italy; flood-prone areas and hydraulic works stop at the Po river district; the stations are those of the open-licence public networks we have been able to integrate, listed under the sources. Outside those perimeters a layer is not empty because there is no risk: it is empty because there is no data.

River levels
Sorted by how much they moved in the last two hours, rising ones first. The value is in metres above the section’s own gauge zero, which differs from station to station: compare a station with itself over time, not with another one. Two warnings that come from the data rather than from caution: the change is computed on medians of three readings, because single readings occasionally jump half a metre and that is a sensor fault, not a flood; and on a quiet day the list is dominated by estuary and delta stations, which move with the tide.

Two things that normally live on different maps: the cartography of what can flood, and a river reading from fifteen minutes ago. On one map you can see whether a rising level concerns your piece of ground.
Why the circles are not coloured
The Region’s official map colours each station against three hydrometric thresholds, set jointly by Arpae, AIPo, the regional agency for territorial safety and the land reclamation consortia. Those thresholds are not published in any open dataset we could find: they are not in the observed-data feed, and Arpae’s catalogue does not expose them. So the circles here stay neutral and we show the level and its change, rather than inventing a colour that would say “careful” or “all fine” without grounds. For the official colour there is the Region’s own map, which is the right place for it.
For what they would mean: below threshold 1 there is no flood wave; above 1 the wave fills the low-water channel; above 2 the water occupies the areas between the embankments and reaches the embankments themselves; above 3 it occupies the whole river section and is close to the recorded maxima. That is the definition in the official guide to the hydrometric level map.
Limits, and they matter
This map is NOT an alerting system. Civil protection alerting runs exclusively through the official channels of the Region and of the national Department: if you have to decide whether to move or stay, that is the source, not this page.
- Real-time hydrometric data are not validated. Discharges change even retroactively when rating curves are updated.
- AIPo’s coverage of the areas between embankments is not uniform: verified by us on 29 August 2026, the layer draws them along the Po and the final reach of the Panaro, and draws none along the Secchia. A missing polygon does not mean there is no floodplain on the ground.
- For a delimitation with regulatory force, what counts are the PAI river bands and the flood-prone areas of the current flood plan published by the Po river district authority, not this rendering.
